Position: National Coalition Coordinator
Duty Station: Nairobi with regular travel to Project sites in Kenya
Duration: 1 Year (Renewable subject to performance and availability of funds)
The Strategic Partnership Right Here Right Now 2 (RHRN2) for which a grant is received by Rutgers from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs is part of a global programme aimed at improving SRHR situation of young people. In Kenya, the RHRN2 coalition is made of 7 civil society organizations and institutions working to promote the sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents and young people guided by a theory of change that aims at ensuring that young people in all their diversity enjoy their sexual and reproductive health and rights in a gender just society.
The National Coalition coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the coalition operations in Kenya enhancing collaboration and partnership among coalition members, stakeholders and government departments. S/he will facilitate, coordinate and inspire coalition partners to implement programmes collaboratively and collectively for maximum impact as outlined in the joint country programme and annual work plans. The NCC has the central role of assuring the mainstreaming of the key RHRN 2 principles including meaningful youth participation, Gender transformative approaches, Human rights based approaches and do No harm in all aspects of programming and advocacy. This person inspires the RHRN2 country partners to execute the programme and realize the programme ToC. Oversees the management of the collaboration process of country partners, looking for synergy, exchange and learning between the partners to become more effective in reaching the results of the RHRN2 Programme.
The NCC Serves to ensure:
⎯ Young people are at the center of the programme and supporting meaningful and inclusive youth participation throughout the programme development, implementation, governance, monitoring and evaluation.
⎯ Is proactive in motivating that sensitive issues will be taken up sufficiently by the partners.
⎯ Serves as the face of the programme in-country: representing the coalition in (advocacy) events and meetings and increasing the visibility of the country coalition.
∙ Facilitates and coordinates programme development and preparation of the annual Country Work Plans agreed upon by the National
∙ Organises and convenes in-country annual planning and review meetings;
∙ Monitors the progress of the implementation of the Coalitions Annual Country Programme Plans and keeps track on country objectives;
∙ Discusses with partners under performance, signals cases of long term non-performance and communicates long term non-performance following the guidelines for escalations; ∙ Signals and communicates other challenges and problems related to the programme and its coalition partners to the National Steering Committee
∙ Manages the joint activity budget with support from the Kenya country manager at Rutgers
∙ Compiles financial and progress reports, the annual overall budget and PME information for review at country level and onward submission to the back donor;
∙ Facilitates and inspires country alliance partners to collaborate and look for synergy at country level;
∙ Facilitates shared learning and joint initiatives with regard to programme implementation and PME activities at country level;
∙ Organises joint programme evaluations and workshops to share experiences with implementing partners;
∙ Identifies the need for TA (institutional and thematic) at country level (centrally and for individual or selection of partners)in addition to the needs that country Coalition partners identify themselves;
∙ Chairs Feeder teams consisting of Programme and M&E technical working groups ∙ Coordinates the development and realisation of Operational Research; ∙ Facilitates or leads the joint advocacy efforts of the country Coalition; ∙ Coordinates partnership with the Dutch Embassy in Kenya and other Strategic SRHR Partnerships;
∙ Represents the RHRN II coalition at local, national and international events and meetings; ∙ Positions, Profiles and elevates visibility of the RHRN II Coalition in Kenya including deployment and use of digital platforms
∙ Assure sustainability of the coalition through sustained resource mobilisation in liaison with the national
ACCOUNTABILITY AND REFLECTION
∙ The NCC is contracted by a host organisation, which is one of the Coalition partners in Kenya
∙ This is a full-time position and the NCC cannot have another position/job at one of the Coalition partners nor take paid assignments or consultancies with members and other players.
∙ The NCC is hierarchically accountable to the line manager (ED or Head of Programmes) of the host organization.
∙ The NCC will receive oversight from the country Coalition national Steering Committee. Desired Qualifications:
∙ A minimum of University degree in Public health, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
∙ Four years of relevant working experience of which at least 3 in a similar or related coordination role;
∙ Experienced in programme management, including implementation and PME; ∙ Demonstrated experience of working with a network of local organisations, managing contacts with key-stakeholders;
∙ Excellent English (written and oral) communication skills;
∙ Sound experience in the field of SRHR (sexual and reproductive health and rights advocacy);
∙ Work experience in an international (development) organisation;
∙ Proven track recordin programme management (report writing, PMEL, budget management), facilitating learning processes and Coalition building;
∙ Energetic about putting youth at the centre of this programme and working with young people as equal partners;
∙ Experience with networking and lobbying and advocacy at country and regional level; ∙ Strong facilitator, connector, communicator and leader;
∙ Strong administrative and organizational skills;
∙ Ability to work independently;
∙ Self-confident, persistent and decisive; good listening capacity; assertive; flexible; ∙ Ability to travel;
∙ Supports the values and principles as described in the RHRN Essential Package. ∙ Familiarity with the sexual and reproductive health and rights environment in the country and Supports perspectives of Sexual Rights as Human rights
∙ Excellent cross-cultural, relational and interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen, and respect for partners and colleagues.
∙ Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
∙ Must be flexible, willing to work irregular hours, and adaptable to changing circumstances and demonstrated problem solving skills.
