Litigation Associate at Harry Karanja & Company Advocates

Working from home, the litigation associate will support our litigation department in case research, drafting pleadings and motions, case management, pre-trial, trial, and post-judgment activities.

Qualifications Required

  • Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • Valid Practicing Certificate for 2021

Skills Required

  • Communication skills – You must be able to succinctly summarise an argument and be capable of presenting complex legal concepts to clients in both written and verbal form.
  • Organisation skills – You must be able to manage your time and your calendar without supervision.
  • An eye for detail – You need to be able to identify small discrepancies in a case, and be able to determine what is relevant, and what is not, to successfully prosecute or defend a case.
  • Negotiation skills – You must have negotiation and persuasion skills to convince the court or opposition of the value in your argument.
  • Adaptability – You must be able to anticipate and overcome unexpected obstacles that invariably crop up during the litigation process.
  • Tenacity – You need to have the determination to win, and have the strength to maintain composure, and calm, when cases become chaotic and complicated.
  • Computer skills – You must be comfortable using computers and technology in general.

Work Environment

The successful candidates will work remotely and requires the following environment

  • Access to high-speed internet
  • A working computer with a web cam
  • Quiet and professional setting from which to attend court virtually
  • Availability during court hours, but flexi-hours for other tasks.
