Job Purpose: To promote and restore patients’ health by providing comprehensive nursing care and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

Operational Responsibilities

  • Ensure availability and functionality of medical equipment in the nursing room, doctors room and procedure room.
  • Conduct initial assessment and continuous monitoring of patients including brief history, triage and recording of vital signs.
  • Develop evidence-based nursing care plan for individualised patient care in a health facility.
  • Document nursing care services accurately and completely in the electronic medical record.
  • Perform nursing procedures in the facility.
  • Assist the Medical Officer/Clinical Officer in performing minor surgical procedures.
  • Monitor patients undergoing procedures or other form of treatment.
  • Provide emergency care at the clinic.
  • Ensure inventory management in the nursing and/or procedure room.
  • Conduct patient education on priority health issues identified that require intervention.
  • Ensure that infection prevention measures are put in place in the health facilities.
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and treatment protocols.
  • Keep abreast with developments in diagnostics and therapeutics in the market and advise the management accordingly.
  • Participate in marketing activities and events as scheduled from time to time.
  • Liaise with the Chief Medical Officer on rota preparation and management including locum staff on boarding.
  • Participate in the internal Continuous Medical Education (CME) programs.
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and Hospital Committees as appointed from time to time.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time.

Job Dimensions:

Financial Responsibility:

  • Ensure accurate billing for procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to claims management process to avoid rejections on clinical grounds.

Responsibility for Physical Assets

  • Office equipment in the nursing and/or procedure rooms.
  • Medical equipment in the nursing and/or procedure rooms.

Decision Making:

  • Clinical decision making.

Job Competencies (Knowledge, Experience and Attributes / Skills)

Academic Qualifications

  • O-levels/A-Levels

Professional Qualifications

  • Possess a valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Other know-how required apart from academic and professional qualifications

  • Computer skills

Previous relevant work experience required

  • At least 1yr experience post internship experience in a similar position

Functional Skills:

  • Nursing care Skills.
  • Infection prevention and control.
  • Drug administration.
  • Patient education skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member.
